Men's Department
Join us at the Upper Room COGIC as we form a community of mighty men who love God, family, and ministry.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
- Jesus is, and always will be, Lord;
- God’s Word should be preached without hesitation;
- our senior statesmen have sage wisdom to share; and
- men should be men and that testosterone is welcome here.
HOW WE DEFINE A BIBLICAL MAN
Men’s Department President
Elder Anthony Wilson
Veteran’s Day Honor
Bishop Patrick L. Wooden, Sr
- is of honest report, and full of the Holy Ghost (Acts 6:3);
- has a dedicated prayer life (1 Timothy 2:8);
- desires nothing but God’s Truth (Psalm 119:11); and
- displays a genuine love for his wife while actively strengthening his marriage (Ephesians 5:25).
We are considered “qualified men” when we become men of prayer, men of worship, men of praise, men of pride, men of passion, and men of purpose.

OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE GOD AND OTHERS
The Men’s Department Counsel
The Men’s Department Counsel is an internal ministry of the church made up of members with diverse professional experience and spiritual maturity. We offer biblical wisdom, general guidance, and perspective to help individuals think clearly, plan carefully, and seek God’s direction. Our role is to walk alongside, not to direct or decide. We need strong, godly men who are willing to dedicate time to enrich the lives of others. To volunteer, click the button above.
Man Down (Men's Shelter & Food Bank)
Upper Room’s Man Down ministry seeks to meet the physical and spiritual needs of men who’ve hit a low point in life. We do it by building relationships with men’s shelters and providing men with clothing and furniture. We also meet their spiritual needs via Bible studies. The result is that the men involved realize how important they are to their communities, their families, and the next generation of leaders.
Men’s In-Reach Ministry
Upper Room’s Man Down ministry seeks to meet the physical and spiritual needs of men who’ve hit a low point in life. We do it by building relationships with men’s shelters and providing men with clothing and furniture. We also meet their spiritual needs via Bible studies. The result is that the men involved realize how important they are to their communities, their families, and the next generation of leaders.
Men’s Out-Reach Ministry
Upper Room’s Men’s Out-Reach ministry encourages men to serve our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while becoming men of strength, character, and leadership. The goal is to draw men, women, and children into a redemptive relationship with Christ.
Sick and Shut-in Ministry
Much like Jesus cared for the family of Lazarus at the time of his death, Upper Room’s Sick and Shut-In ministry seeks to support our brothers and sisters in Christ who are dealing with sickness or death. We do this by sending thoughtful cards, providing physical and monetary assistance, and offering hospitality visits.
Veterans Day
The Upper Room Church of God In Christ Veterans Joint Services Commission (VJSC) is a subset of the Men’s Department, which is comprised of 7 Veterans representing 4 major branches of the United States Armed Forces. Under the direction of our Pastor, Bishop Patrick L. Wooden, Sr., this Commission honors the Veterans of our Church for their dedicated service and selfless sacrifice in defense of our country
Life Skills Teaching
Is There A Cause – The Concern at Hand:
Recent studies suggest 64% of Black children (a slight majority are male) are in single-parent households, with Black mothers heading roughly 47-50% of Black families. As a result, many black males have/had no male figure to teach them the basic life skills of manhood from a male’s perspective and influence.
Why is This Important:
The overall goal is to educate and equip males of all ages in the church/ community with boundless lifetime lasting life skills reaching beyond the school classroom and sports that will create opportunities for success in Life.
How We Will Accomplish:
We will accomplish this feat by providing Biblical and practical life skills teaching through a series of forums highlighting:
• Personal Hygiene and Grooming
• Dressing for the Occasion
• Etiquette, Ethics & Cultural Awareness
• Interviewing Skills
• Proper Social Media Behavior
• Basic Money Management
• Career Paths in the Trades Benefits
• Military Careers
• College Education & Careers
